Choosing your dental check up
In addition to your hygiene cleans, we recommend a dental check up with a dentist once a year. We offer two types of checks that can be added to your routine or comprehensive clean. Adult checks are always done by a dentist, even if you see the oral health therapist for your clean.
Limited check
A quick check done during your clean appointment that includes free bitewing x-rays.

It is best for patients who have no concerns and generally have good dental health. If the dentist identifies issues or concerns, you will likely need to come back for a consult for more detailed diagnosis and to discuss treatment options.
Comprehensive check
A separate thorough check with your dentist that includes free bitewing and OPG x-rays.

It is best for new patients, those who don’t see the dentist often, and those with concerns about their dental health. Your dentist will thoroughly assess your oral health, discuss concerns, and provide treatment options if needed.

Understanding oral health therapy
Oral health therapy focuses on preventing and treating gum disease, preserving your natural teeth, and keeping your mouth in a healthy, balanced state.

Our oral health therapist is specially trained in gum health and hygiene and works alongside our dentists to provide personalised care. They perform scaling, polishing, deep cleans, and oral hygiene education, all designed to reduce your risk of gum disease and avoid the need for complex dental treatment later.
Choosing your provider
Both our oral health therapist (OHT) and dentists offer professional dental cleans, and you’re welcome to see either, depending on your needs.

Our oral health therapist focuses solely on gum health and prevention. They offer a range of hygiene services including routine and comprehensive cleans, and periodontal treatment. OHT appointments are often longer and more detailed, with extra time for deep cleaning and personalised oral health advice.

Many patients prefer to see our oral health therapist regularly to stay on top of their gum health and reduce the need for future dental treatment. They’re also particularly skilled at helping nervous patients feel calm and confident during hygiene visits.

If you prefer to have your clean done during a check-up with the dentist, or need sedation for your clean, your dentist can also provide a thorough scale and polish alongside your general dental care.

No matter who you see, you’ll receive high-quality care focused on prevention, comfort, and long-term oral health.
Keeping your smile healthy at home
Good oral health doesn’t stop at the clinic. To keep your teeth and gums healthy, brush twice a day, floss daily, avoid smoking, limit sugary food and drink, and drink plenty of water, especially after food.
For effective brushing, brush for 2 minutes following these steps:

Apply fluoride toothpaste to a soft bristle toothbrush.

Brush your back teeth at a 45° angle going back and forth.

Brush the front of your teeth in an up and down motion.

Brush your tongue in a back and forth motion.

Brush the front of your teeth in a circular motion.

Rinse thoroughly with water or mouthwash if preferred.

Brush the back of your teeth in an up and down motion.

Repeat twice daily and after eating sticky foods.
